An Awakening
The day dawned bright
Our lives continued
At their usual pace
Rushing here and there
Getting things done
At work and at home
Always on the run
So lulled were we
By our secure lives
Never dreamt it would be
Such a struggle to survive
What a rude awakening
From our comfort zone
Faced with something
Hitherto unknown
There were problems, we knew,
In the lands far away
But cocooned was our world
Untouched in every way
Suddenly we have found
That the problem is our guest
Invading our lives
At nobody's behest
The uncertainty of life
Has been starkly underlined
Our thinking and our stance
Needs to be seriously realigned
Like all other living beings
We too are Gaia's children
And more than anyone else
A lot more beholden
To let her bloom and blossom
With unrestricted ardour
For reasons more sublime
Than what we can gather
To keep her clean and safe
Away from harm's way
For another new beginning
And another new day
